Rated 2 out of 5 by This product's reliability goes down hill quickly I have bought 2 of these units. I was never really satisfied with the first one, but had so many chains for it, I purchased another. The first time you use them, they are great. As soon as you use them a second time and there after, their reliability goes down hill. It takes a minimum of 6 pulls to get them started. Quite often it takes as many as 10. All my fuel is either fresh or has stabilizer in it. The first unit has been in the repair shop from the beginning, and now because it won't go down to an idle, it will have to be put in again. That is the reason for the 2nd unit. They bind up easily when cutting, even though I have had the bar oiler increased. The 1st unit is 5 years old. I have been cutting wood for 37 years. Very dissatisfied with the product. August 26, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these tools I own a 290 farm boss love it . I've cut hundreds of trees with it most of them 24 in or bigger. If want to limb out a tree with ease get a stihl FS130R trimer with the chainsaw attachment you will have two tools, and you won't have to been over to cut. the 130r has all the power you need to run that 12'' bar its the best investment in tools I've made in a long time.(stihl). Rated 1 out of 5 by Never will own one again Yes I use fresh gas. Yes I keep it tuned. Yes I store with fuel preservative. This thing frustrates me. When it warms up it will not run with enough power to cut. When it's cold it works just fine. I have had nothing but troubles with this saw since I have had it. Been in the shop several times. Yes it is an authorized dealer. No one seems to be able to fix it so I am done with the Stihl brand. I believe it is a design problem. I do not recommend this saw to anyone. August 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great size saw for most anything. The 18" bar and this saw combination is suited for most all tree work around a home owners property. Even large trees in the 30"+ range. Dependable and light. August 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Difficult to start Received this saw as a gift and have owned several other saws over the years though this was my first Stihl. From the beginning had difficulty starting it. Read the instructions and watched the Stihl video on youtube. Took the saw back twice to the dealer for tutorials on starting. As of the moment, I can start it easily. The trick seems to be to pull the cord once very hard to get a burp (or a second time if no burp on first tug), move the choke then pull once very hard again. I've been doing this every other day or so and it works. But I shouldn't need a "trick" to start a fairly simple tool. I've had mowers, tillers, and generators with pull cords and none of them needed a 'trick" to start.I have no intention of buying a Stihl product again. June 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I came back for Stihl I purchased my first Stihl Farm Boss over 35 years ago. Most of that time I gave it moderate use. Finally, I started having small problems, like a wornout clutch, and I realized it was time to get a new saw, I went back to Stihl. If the new saw works as good as the first I won't have much to worry about. Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable Tool This is the most reliable chain saw I have owned. My sons and son's in law all own lesser brands and when it comes to getting the job done they always want to borrow my Farm Boss. Thank you Stihl! June 21, 2014
