Rated 1 out of 5 Never will own one again Yes I use fresh gas. Yes I keep it tuned. Yes I store with fuel preservative. This thing frustrates me. When it warms up it will not run with enough power to cut. When it's cold it works just fine. I have had nothing but troubles with this saw since I have had it. Been in the shop several times. Yes it is an authorized dealer. No one seems to be able to fix it so I am done with the Stihl brand. I believe it is a design problem. I do not recommend this saw to anyone. August 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great size saw for most anything. The 18" bar and this saw combination is suited for most all tree work around a home owners property. Even large trees in the 30"+ range. Dependable and light. August 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Difficult to start Received this saw as a gift and have owned several other saws over the years though this was my first Stihl. From the beginning had difficulty starting it. Read the instructions and watched the Stihl video on youtube. Took the saw back twice to the dealer for tutorials on starting. As of the moment, I can start it easily. The trick seems to be to pull the cord once very hard to get a burp (or a second time if no burp on first tug), move the choke then pull once very hard again. I've been doing this every other day or so and it works. But I shouldn't need a "trick" to start a fairly simple tool. I've had mowers, tillers, and generators with pull cords and none of them needed a 'trick" to start.I have no intention of buying a Stihl product again. June 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by I came back for Stihl I purchased my first Stihl Farm Boss over 35 years ago. Most of that time I gave it moderate use. Finally, I started having small problems, like a wornout clutch, and I realized it was time to get a new saw, I went back to Stihl. If the new saw works as good as the first I won't have much to worry about. Rated 5 out of 5 by Reliable Tool This is the most reliable chain saw I have owned. My sons and son's in law all own lesser brands and when it comes to getting the job done they always want to borrow my Farm Boss. Thank you Stihl! June 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by farm boss For the money & the size of the saw this is the bang for your buck I hope they keep the 291 as the farm boss & not move it to the 271. June 20, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great home/farm saw! I recently purchased this saw from my local dealer. I was looking for a saw with power, not too heavy, and dependability. I was guided to this saw (with an 18" bar)and I knew this was the saw I needed. When I got home, tried it on some low grown branches on a few trees, it cut through them like it was nothing. I also have a Poulan Pro ( 18" bar), compared to this, the Stihl out does it on almost everything. The only things that the poulan has on the stihl is, its easier to start (mostly because the poulan is only only a 42cc powerhead), and its lighter than the stihl. I also go to my uncles fairly large property to help cut/ maintain the trees there. With the poulan, work was slowed down because of the low output of power, even with a sharpened chain. Now with the stihl, I'm done in about a minute it seems like. This saw is a very, very good tree felling saw. When i go on camping trips, fishing trips, or anywhere I need firewood, this is the saw i will take with. With the proper maintenance and service, this saw should live for 20+ years! Anything you need done on the property, big or small, or anything that involves a chainsaw, this will do the job. May 30, 2014
