Rated 5 out of 5 by I highly recommend this saw Bought this saw a year ago and it has performed very well. It's easy to start and it's sips fuel. It got a workout after Hurricane Sandy and never missed a beat. I like the filtration system and the anti-vib.It's a great saw for the money! February 21, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by my favorite new toy i needed a new ground saw and wanted something lighter than my ms361 so decided to try out the ms271. ill start by saying it can be a little hard to cold start. usually four pulls on choke then one one half choke but once it is running i have no complaints. it handles the 18 " bar with ease. i added a 20" bar and it does excellent with it as well. i bought it for a ground saw but i must say it is my favorite all around saw because i now use it in the bucket about 70% of the time and use it for the bigger stuff while climbing. i highly recommend this saw to anyone who has multiple uses for a chainsaw February 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid felling or cord wood saw I spent months figuring out what saw I wanted, needed, and could afford. In the end it came down to hands-on trial and error and word of mouth. Stihl, in my circle, was by far the most trusted and recommended brand. A no-brainer for me, my father had his for 35 years, so I bought the MS271 with the 18' guide bar. It has more than enough power for me when felling oaks, pine, maple, or birch. Always dependable, and great for even just cutting up cord wood. One of the more important reasons for owning this model is the winter/summer shutter. In NH it can be quite warm or extremely cold and this feature always allows me to cut no matter what the weather. A fantastic chainsaw for anyone and I highly recommend this one to everyone! Thanks Stihl! January 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by great saw. runs strong. same power as a larger saw in a compact size. easy to work on. light weight highly recomend. i fall trees for fire wood all year and this saw eats them up. strong enough to pull through a full cut but light enough to limb after its down. put it next to a farm boss and no going back. i just wish the case was like the older one piece ones. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great yard saw I have 2 acre property with many oaks, swamp maples, and some cedar and cottonwood. Over the last 8 years we have had numerous downed trees, including 8 during sandy and two huge oaks last fall. I had the stock 16 inch bar and just added the 20inch tonight. I need to check if there is a major difference in the chains, cause this thing is a beast! Like i have a new saw. Now i have 16 inch for regular stuff and 20inch for the bigger stuff! I remember going to agway in riverhead ny as a kid w my Dad when he bought his first Stihl, now 30 something years later I am 6 years into my MS270C and just love it! November 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice machine. I have had my MS 271 for almost a year now. It is used for storm clean-up and firewood. It doesn't get used often, but when it does come out of the case, it always impresses folks with its torque and smoothness. Mine pulls the 18" chain easily. Throttle response is unbelievable and goes from idle to about 13,000 rpm in a quick snap. Much better quality than the saws I previously had and while it may cost 4 times as much, it's well worth it. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw This is a great little saw. I would take it over the farm boss any day of the week. The vibration system is best I've ever used.. It can be pain to cold start, but after that no hesitation at all. I run 20" bar and use mainly on small stuff . I would hesitate to use as full time saw though.. October 27, 2012
