Rated 5 out of 5 Should have upgraded a long time ago! I have owned ECHO and Husqvarna and for far to long I have been in denial about STIHL chainsaws. I recently purchased a MS 271 and a MS 362. I primarily heat my home with wood and cut a large amount of hedge (Osage Orange) each year. My previous chain saws required more maintenance and lacked the power I needed to go through an entire cutting season without any issues. A plus for STIHL are the carbide chains they produce for each of my saws which is the primary saw chain I use for cutting hedge as it is a very dirty and dense hardwood. I have seen the light, and have recommended STIHL saws to all of my wood cutting friends who have actually purchased saws since I have shown the way of the STIHL saw. April 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wouldn't cut wood without it! Purchased my first saw (Stihl Farm Boss) in the early 70's My second (021) in the early 90's And my latest (MS291) The only reason I purchased a new saw is for technology improvements, As both early saws still run like a charm. The new saw is amazing, powerful, smooth running, easy to start and very low vibration. There is NO other saw, a Stihl is the only saw that will go in the woods with me. Thank you for an amazing tool. April 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Runs smooth I also bought a 461 awesome saw but if I tried the ms271 first I would have bought two instead of the 461 was over kill for me. April 11, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by This is a lightweight good running saw I bought this saw to replace an old echo saw for cutting firewood . It has plenty of power to cut most anything. The automatic oiler leaves something to be desired however as I have cut 3 cord of wood in the last couple months with it and have already been thru one bar and three chains. The oiler doesn't keep the chain and bar oiled well enough to keep a smooth even cut and the 20" bar that came with the saw gets way too hot very quickly. I will say that it is very powerful and can run the 20" bar well the lubrication system just can't handle it. April 7, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by The clutch burned out before I finished the first tank of gas I have been cutting a lot of firewood the last two years so I decided to upgrade to a more powerful saw and save myself some time. So I bought a Stihl thinking it would be reliable. Before I finished the first tank of gas, the saw started smoking while I was cutting a downed tree. I let the saw sit until it stopped and tried to start it again but the chain would not turn. I know the chain brake was not on. April 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This saw is what "Quality" feels like in a chain saw! Just bought the MS 271, passed my other brand saw on to my Son. I could tell from the first cut I had hold of a different breed of saw. The difference is amasing. I also own a Stihl weedeater, same quality there. The world would be better off if everything that used a rope starter said "STHIL" on the side of it. March 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by MS 271 is a cutting machine. I've had a number of chainsaw in my time but most of them are just worn out over time. I used a friends MS270 a few weeks ago and fell in love with the power of his saw. I was cleaning out a place to put a 30 X 40 pole building and had to remove about 30 huge pine trees. I was using my small saw and it was just taking too long so I bit the bullet and headed to a dealer in our town. He fixed me up with a MS 271 and I headed home. The only reason I quit cutting trees yesterday with the saw is because it got too dark to see. You will be super impressed with this saw. Starts easy and has the power to cut through 16" pines like you wouldn't believe. I'm absolutely love this saw. March 25, 2014
