Rated 5 out of 5 by This is the chainsaw most homeowners need No fuel to mix, no two cycle engine to maintain. This battery operated chainsaw is in a category by itself…the only battery operated chainsaw that works like a real chainsaw. Do not waste your time with something cheaper. You will be tired before the battery runs low and it charges quickly. The battery also works with other Stihl products. May 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great chain saw I bought the 180C chain saw and think it is the best product I have bought. It does the job and is so easy to start and handle. Would not think of buying anything else. May 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lightweight and quiet enough! I just love this chainsaw, because I'm a 67 year old woman who still likes to work on my property and I need lightweight now. The only problem and maybe it's me, is that it leaks the oil out of it, after use and I have to put it on absorbent papers. My husband thinks all chain saws leak some oil from under it. Even if it isn't very full of oil. Is that just what accumulated from going out the chain? It is coming from under where I set it down. Am I supposed to empty the oil every time, somehow, or how can I avoid this? I call this my "toy". Dot April 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent I have 2 spring start chain saws. They work very well. April 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Most expensive and most rewarding Cheap it isn't, but I have been endangering my life for years with pull to start chainsaws. Let me explain, I have a hillside off the back end of my house that leads out to our fields. The hillside is, to say the least, quite steep. It is, in fact, way to steep to mow with a farm tractor. Every few years the growth on the hillside reaches a height that obstructs our view. In the past I have taken my 14" gas powered saw up this steep side and cut trees up to 8 inches. Just trying to start the gas powered saws was dangerous since slipping while pulling could be catastrophic. Often the saw would just quit because of the angle it had to be held on (gas not reaching the pickup tube) and then it required more starts. The fact that the MSA160 is so light and maneuverable is also a huge plus. I have only worked with the saw for a short time but I have to say it is amazing and worth every penny. February 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pricy but Very Handy Chainsaw for Suburban Use This is a small, quiet, light battery operated chainsaw that has already proven to be extremely useful and capable. I used it to cut down a 8" diameter hardwood tree that was over 20 ft tall. One battery was enough to cut down the tree and convert it into firewood and there was still a little battery power left when I was done. The tank of bar oil roughly lasts for one battery charge. It is extremely easy to use and maintain with no headaches relating to carburetors ruined by bad gas, starting the engine, or other problems associated with gas chainsaws. This saw slices through wood - I really did not notice any speed difference between it and my Stihl gas saw -- this was very impressive. It is also substantially faster than using a Dewalt 18 volt reciprocating saw for tree trimming. This chainsaw can handle 90% of the tree cutting, tree trimming, and firewood cutting chores in my suburban neighborhood. The other 10% requires my larger Stihl gas chainsaw. It's sweet spot is for cutting 1" to 8" diameter trees or branches -- although it can cut larger diameters your larger Stihl gas saw is better for the thicker cuts. October 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Saw I bought this saw this spring. I had been injured and the Farm Boss was a little more than I am able to handle. So, I did some investigatingand decided to give this little guy a try. Yes it is pricey to get into the battery , charger and saw, but it has been exactly what I was hoping for. Soon after purchase I had a 20 ft. branch from a mature ash come down on my patio. The 160 made it an easy clean-up job. We had 10 inch width limbs to cut through. The 160 can't be pushed, you have to let it maintain its rpms, to do a good job. But, once you learn that, it has an exceptional clean smooth cut. I have used it to remove 25 yr. 10 inch dead Scotch Pines and my sons and neighbor were amazed at how it did the job. Battery stays charged as advertised. Great tool. September 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by you must try it to believe it I am a Stihl dealer so I have tried and own many of their products. This is one of the best pieces of equipment i have ever used. I also have a 460 saw and between the two of them I can do all my saw work. July 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A quiet and powerful saw We had severe thunderstorms pass through northwest Ohio last night (6/23/13) and I lost the top of my hybrid poplar tree. At 6:00 am on the 24th I was cleaning up the tree damage without waking the neighbors. The MSA 160 C-BQ saw was powerful enough to cut up 5 and 6 inch branches with ease and it was remarkably quiet. In an hour's time the clean-up was done and I was on my way to work at my regular job. What a great little chain saw! Thank you! June 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good tool! A dependable small chainsaw without the noise and stench.Well balanced, light enough for one hand stretch work. No cord to pull, easy on elbow and shoulder. It taught me its own trigger dance: You want to speed it up all the way before the cut and keep it fast for all the cuts you have lined up. Not the squeeze-squeeze for every cut.It tends to choke up on fine twiggy stuff wrapping around the sprocket which seriously eats power . Maybe some baffle or cover redesign might help.I love it.Stealth chainsawing made real! June 22, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Well made, quiet, strong I bought this saw soon after it came out and am delighted with it. I do a lot of hiking trail clean-up, cutting out windfall trees and limbs and this saw is perfect. It is small enough to fit in a medium size back pack with plenty of room left over for the usual hiking gear and light enough to carry long distances relatively easily. It can cut through a dozen or more 8" to 12" logs on a charge with power left over for dozens of smaller logs and branches. It is light enough to hold one-handed straight upwards to trim overhanging branches with ease. No need for hearing protection and so quiet it is inaudable from a hundred yards away. The price is high but this saw is a gem and it is well worth it. April 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Clean, quiet, powerful. I purchased my saw a couple of months ago, and am impressed every time I use it. It cuts as fast and for as long as my MS192T. The 1/4 inch safety chain allows for accurate, close cuts without kickback. When trimming in dense trees and brush there is no exhaust fume buildup, and at the end of the day I don't smell like gasoline. With two batteries I can cut all day with power to spare. April 1, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by No more grabbing the hand saw for small jobs There does not seem to be much objective user information about Stihl’s line of battery operated yard tools around on the web, I hope my review can help.I ended up purchasing the blower, chainsaw, and trimmer along with two batteries and a charger. The last two weekends I put many hours on each tool and in every case I was very impressed. The tools are so much more accessible than their gas powered brethren. I would not always pull out my gas tools for a quick use, but the battery tools are just as easy to use for two minutes as 20. The blower performed comparable to my old BG86 and the chainsaw ate through six inch limbs with ease. The trimer runs a lighter line than my old FS130, but had no issues taking on lawn. Run times all seem as advertised.Obviously the big issue is the price, but you know that going in. Yes, I’m poorer now, but I will not miss the fall ritual of draining gas nor the spring ritual of getting tools back up and running. No more two cycle mix to deal with either. I’m very happy with my purchase and would do it again. Thanks Stihl! March 31, 2013
