Rated 3 out of 5 by Cold blooded until warm I bought my BG55 blower a few months ago. It runs great when warmed up, but really finiky when cold. If you don't want to flood the blower be sure to follow the starting procedure exactly, as it floods extremely easy. Expect it to run rough, die out, and sometimes refuse to restart during warmup. I own 2 Stihl chain saws and a Stihl trimmer, none of which act like this. I've read all the reviews and various ideas on how to solve the problem, but nothing really works. I've concluded that the problem is with Stihl cheapening up and using a junk Zama Chinese carbureator rather than the American made Waldo carb they previously used. My older Stihl blower used the Waldo carb and always ran dependabily. So much for German engineering!!! October 20, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Easy to flood., so be careful not to over prime.. Using this blower for over a year, I have found it to flood very easily by following the directions to set the choke then pressing the primer bulb five times. Doing this has consistently caused it to flood and not start for hours. Most of the time it starts just by setting the choke and NOT priming the bulb. Sometimes I don't even set the choke and just pull the start cord and it fires right up.If you live in New England as I do, never use old gas stored over the winter. Make a new batch every season and use the Stihl 2-cycle oil and not a generic brand. As to it's effectiveness, the BG55 moves a lot of leaves in my yard in the fall. Yes you can get more powerful units, but I didn't want anything heavier than this. October 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plenty of blower for a homeowner, love mine. I bought mine before the leaves started falling, I freaquently clean the sidewalks, driveways, and the floors of my garage out with it. Since fall has come, cleaning up the yard is a snap. Easy to start, easy to use. Good investment. October 18, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Hard to start I own 2 Stihl trimmers and both are fantastic -- started up every time for the past 6 years now. However, I got this blower for about six months now, it work working great once it started up. Six months later, it just refused to start up. I took it to the dealer and they took the spark plugs out and blow some air into the spark plugs housing and got it started up again. Start up fine for at least 2 weeks, now it's died again. I have been pulling this darn thing for 20 + times, let rest, pull again, it just won't start. It's going to the dumpster! October 12, 2014
