Rated 5 out of 5 by A lot of wind for a small inexpensive machine I bought my blower at the recommendation of a co-worker. I had a brush fire this spring and one of the fire fighters was using a blower (I think it may have been a BG55). He put out at least 1/4 of the fire by his self. I knew right then I need one for myself. If I had had this blower then, I wouldn't have had to call the Fire Dept. This thing is great! It has replace my rake and broom. Why do all that work when this little baby will do it for you and in half the time? May 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product I bought the leaf blower because I could start it myself and not have to ask my husband to do it for me. It starts reliably after two or three pulls. It is convenient to use (no cord to worry about.) ( I had an electric one before.) It has enough power for me. I bought the fuel Stihl sells for it.So far (a month) I love it! May 21, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by This item needs better parts I have had plenty of stihl products such as chain saws, string trimmers, leaf blowers etc. Never had a problem with any of there products until i bought this BG 55 leaf blower. Owned this blower for 4 yrs and it wasn't used but maybe 8 times and i had to replace the ignition module which they told me wasn't unusual. The parts and labor was half of what a new blower would cost me. Wasn't happy :( May 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Value I've owned this blower for 3 years but have used same blowers for 15 years at fire department. All our stations use them and all still run great even though often used by younger new members who may not have much experience with outdoor equipment. I can't understand reviewers that complain about hard starting. All of the blowers I have used have started easily even those that haven't been cared for! Couple pulls on choke then one maybe two off choke. I've used Stihl products for over 30 years, mostly pro chainsaws. I always use ethanol free fuel and Stihl oil. Motomix is a good choice for this unit as it doesn't use much fuel at all. If course the power of this blower is not like big ones but is very light and inexpensive. Works great blowing grass, leaves and even snow of ofcars. Great advice, service and parts are as close as nearest Stihl independent dealer. Dont even think about getting this at the big box stores. Rated 1 out of 5 by We would be happy to spend more $ to get something that would start and run We have several Stihl products that we absolutely love. This unit was bought for my wife to have something lighter to use. We have used this unit weekly since we purchased it two months ago. It is almost impossible to start. She cannot start it independently and I can hardly start it. It runs very poorly the entire time you are trying to use it (up to 20 min). You have to constantly keep on the throttle/trigger to keep it running. We would be glad to spend more $ to get something that is actually functional. Very dissatisfied! May 10, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good blower but can kill itself. This is a great little blower, plenty of power, but I found out the hard way that it can actually kill itself. How you ask? Inside the air filter there is a metal compression fastener that holds the choke lever in place. It can eventually come loose and rattle around inside the air filter. This happened to my wife as she was using the blower, but instead of just rattling around, it got sucked into the carburetor at full throttle and straight into the engine. It's just small enough to pass straight through the carb. The result was that it disintegrated inside the moving cylinder for a few last strokes and seized the piston. I tore it apart and was amazed that the engineers would have never foreseen this as a possibility.A small coarse screen at the air intake could have prevented this.I ordered a new piston and rings from eBay and was able to rebuild the motor and since the cylinder walls are harder than the fastener there was no major scoring. It doesn't end there though...once I repaired the piston, i just could not get the carb to work right again. I rebuilt it, but I suspect a tiny piece of metal was sucked into the carb during it's last gasp and blocked some port partially. It runs, sort of, but not like it did before this all happened. IMHO, it's a design with an Achilles heal. I'll try another model next time. Take notice Stihl Engineering! May 9, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Value While not quite as much power as I would like, this is a very dependable blower for yard use and easy for my wife to use, as well. May 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by The blower is very easy to use The blower is a very well built blower. It will handle all of my needs as a homeowner and it starts up very easy (as my 12 year old son can start it with no problem) Great product! I love the lock feature that keeps the blower trigger in place so you don't have to hold down. I recommend purchasing the gas/oil 50:1 mix by stihl as this is a factory made mixture and it doesn't contain the ethanol like our normal gas does. May 4, 2015
