Waiblingen, (Nov. 23, 2011) –
This weekend, the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES lost
a competitor, friend and family member, David Bolstad. The 41 year old died
suddenly Saturday, Nov. 19 due to a heart attack after winning a lumberjack
chopping competition in his native New Zealand.
“With five titles in the US Series
and three victories at World Championships, David Bolstad has forever changed
the SERIES and lumberjack sports;
his quiet,
supportive and always professional manner awarded him great respect and
appreciation,” said
Jürgen Fitting, Marketing
Director from ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co. KG.
"Our thoughts go out to David’s wife and two children, his fans and all
who knew him.”
Bolstad competed in the STIHL
TIMBERSPORTS SERIES for more than a decade and holds five STIHL TIMBERSPORTS
Series Championship titles and two World Championship titles. He also holds the
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SERIES world record in the underhand chop, which he set at
12.28 seconds in 1999. He has won more than 50 wood-chopping championships and
titles worldwide, leaving a long lasting impression on the sport, the fans and
the community.
“Beyond being a consummate competitor, David was also
a teacher and mentor to many of the current competitors who came up the ranks
respecting and admiring his proficiency as one of the world’s greatest
chopper/sawyers,” said Roger Phelps from STIHL Inc., USA.
David
Bolstad is survived by his wife and his two children. His legacy as a
world-class chopper, sawyer and STIHL TIMBERSPORTS SERIES Champion will forever
live on within the sport he loved.
