STIHL returns as a sponsor of the SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500®, the largest bricklaying competition worldwide to be held during the World of Concrete (WOC) / World of Masonry (WOM) trade show (Gold Lot of the Las VegasConvention Center) in Las Vegas, Nev. Feb. 3 at Noon PST; activities begin at 11:00 a.m. In this event, the best masons in the world compete in twenty, two-man teams, building a specified 26-foot, double-wythe, masonry brick wall in just 60 minutes.
The competition is judged on a combination of quality craftsmanship and the amount of brick laid. This year’s competition is made up of winners and qualifiers, arguably considered the “Best of the Best,” from 13 regional SMBL500 events that were held in the US & Canada. Included in the 2010 SMBL500 competitors is the 2009 champion, Tyke Mangum, who is invited to return to Las Vegas and defend his title as “World’s Best Bricklayer.”
The event offers $100,000 in cash and prizes for the winners of the bricklaying competition, with the top two finishers and Top Craftsman winning STIHL Cutquik® cut-off machines. Thousands of spectators will turn out to see these masons compete for the top honors in competitive bricklaying.
The event is hosted at the 2010 WOC/WOM, on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at the Las VegasConvention Center in Las Vegas, Nev.Action starts with a preliminary event, the SPEC MIX TOUGHEST TENDER® contest at 11:30 a.m. PST to determine the fastest laborer to set a work area.
