(WASHINGTON, Kan.)- Garden and lifestyle expert P. Allen Smith led the Washington County High School FFA team as they competed against 59 college teams in the Landscape Plant Installation event at this year’s Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Student Career Days held in Atlanta on April 10.
Smith, a nationally renowned gardening expert, host of two television shows, and author of multiple books, also gave the keynote speech to the 883 college students in attendance during the events, which featured competitions among students in landscaping, arboriculture and horticulture.
“To lead this team of talented young people and teach them about the industry was very encouraging,” said Smith. “It is so clear that the future generation of the green industry cares about the environment as much as I do.” The Kansas team was able to participate in this year’s event against the college teams thanks to funds provided by STIHL as a reward for the team’s 2009 national FFA championship win in the Nursery and Landscaping Career Development Event.
