(VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.) – The Virginia Beach City Public Schools recently honored STIHL for its commitment to youth education and involvement in Advanced Training Classes (ATC).
“The partnership encourages communication between STIHL Inc. and the Advanced Center. It is a resource in which STIHL provides input on the technical and workplace readiness skills demanded by their industry. It is an opportunity for the information to be incorporated into the Engineering Technology curriculum,” said Ann Marie C. Garvey, partnership coordinator/assistant director of student programs and business development.
“This partnership resulted in the hiring of three ATC Engineering Technology alumni into the STIHL apprentice program,” she added.
STIHL representatives have also served on advisory boards, been guest speakers and led worksite tours. In addition to STIHL hiring Engineering Technology graduates to enter its apprentice training program, the company has also paid for their college education.
Simon Nance, STIHL manager of training and development, said the program is another way of giving back to the community, “Our partnership with the ATC has not only helped us truly connect with the school system that is teaching today’s technologies, but it has also helped us develop our skilled workforce.”
The Advanced Technology Center is committed to provide a well-trained workforce through maintaining a close connection with the business community. Through the Center’s program, hundreds of students have been able to see the transition from the Engineering Technology classroom to the world of work in a modern manufacturing facility.
