The Women of STIHL Firefighter Combat Challenge Team recently finished 3rd overall in the U.S. Nationals 2009 competition, as well as 3rd overall at The Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge World Championships. The national competition took place Oct. 30-31 in Arlington, Texas and the world competition took place Nov. 16-20 in Las Vegas.
The team was comprised of Hampton Roads firefighters Hope Scott, Stacey Carroll, Kathleen Simpao, Summer Pruette and Vanessa Barrera and led by Alana Cooper, team coordinator.
For their dominance and unparalleled efforts throughout the season, as well as finishing in 1st place at all their competitions leading up to Nationals, the Women of STIHL team was awarded the title of “Grand National Points Champion.”
“This award owes a lot to our support from STIHL. You won’t find such loyal backing from a sponsor like that anywhere else in the country in the women’s division, or even the men’s,” says Cooper. “STIHL’s funding and support of the team enabled the women to travel to several different venues around the country and earn points for each 1st place win.”
“We are proud of our Hampton Roads lady firefighters for their continued effort throughout the year,” said Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for STIHL Inc. “Their dedication and perseverance is typical of how they approach their profession, and we are happy that we could support their efforts in this great competition.”
