(Oberstdorf, Germany) - At the first STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series World Championship held on European soil, almost 10,000 spectators gave the new World Champion an enthusiastic reception last weekend. New Zealand champion, Jason Wynyard, won the title with a consistently good performance in six disciplines over 13 of the worlds best STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® athletes.

Wynyard was filled with pride on the podium wiping away a few tears of joy during the playing of the New Zealand national anthem. The title will be his first to go with his record seven STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series Championships. Second place went to Dave Jewett of the United States. The 36-year-old from Pittsford, N.Y. posted his best finish ever in the competition.

The surprise of the day was Czech, Martin Komrek. The four-time European Champion demonstrated his prowess against the tough field of international competitors. He won the bronze medal, thus giving a glimpse of the future that the Europeans are hot on the heels of their New Zealand and U.S. counterparts.

Gaston Duperre from Canada shared fourth place by scoring equal points with the Austrian Champion, Kurt Graf, and the Swiss, Hermann Schnbchler. Australian Dale Ryan had a bit of bad luck in the final discipline, the Hot Saw, finishing in seventh place in the World Championship.

This years events can be seen on ESPN2 beginning December 17. Airdates are subject to change; check your local listings.
