(Virginia Beach, Va.) – STIHL Inc. will open a health and wellness center for its employees near the company’s Virginia Beach campus in late 2011. To be located across the street from the main campus, the facility is expected to provide convenient access to high quality health services, while lowering the cost of healthcare for its employees, as well as the company.

“The basic concept of the addition is to provide a focal point for wellness initiatives, improve health outcomes for STIHL employees and their families and generate health care savings for both the employees and STIHL,” said Stan Redwood, manager of benefit services for STIHL Inc. ”We’re trying to do the right thing for everybody.”

Currently, employees and their families are using healthcare facilities that are based in the community. As part of the transition, only STIHL employees will have access to the new facility at first, but the company plans to provide access to spouses and dependents after the first year. Use of the facility is not mandatory, but the option is available for employees who are interested in a co-pay lower than that of community-based health providers.

The STIHL health and wellness center will provide general medical services, primary and urgent care, lab work and immunizations, annual physicals, wellness programs and health education. In late 2012, STIHL anticipates adding physical therapy services.

STIHL participated in a feasibility study to evaluate different health care models and best practices. Patient satisfaction, a positive long-term track record and quality health care were priorities as the company researched different providers. STIHL found these qualities in QuadMed, a Milwaukee-based provider that has partnered with other top companies.

“I believe we have chosen an excellent partner with a great history of providing successful on-site solutions for employers,” said Redwood.
