I entered a contest about 2 - 3 months ago for STIHL products. The winners were to be announced each month. What happened to the contest?
After a name is drawn, there is a verification process that confirms that the winner is eligible. This takes a bit of time and thus the winners are posted every two weeks or so and not daily.
The current winners are named here: http://www.stihlusa.com/365/winners/.
My instruction manual says not to run the product at full throttle for the first 2 to 3 tanks of fuel mix. Why is this?
This can cause internal engine damage. STIHL recommends that you do not run your engine at wide open throttle without a load. A blower is under a load at all times, a trimmer is under a load as long as the trimmer head is in place and the line is to the correct length, while a chain saw is under a load when the bar and chain are in a cut.
Please contact STIHL to request a STIHL submission packet.
Please contact your local STIHL Dealer for spare parts assistance or call 1-800-GO-STIHL and select option 2.

The RMA 370 battery-powered, walk-behind lawn mower expands the versatility of the STIHL Battery KombiSystem, which allows you to power multiple tools with one easily interchangeable 36-volt lithium-ion battery. With no gas to buy or store, you'll enjoy less mess and no fumes. Easy and convenient, the mower starts instantly - just push the button and pull the switch lever, eliminating the need of pulling
starter cords. Let go, and the motor and blade stop. It's lightweight, easy to maneuver and much quieter than gasoline-powered mowers – making it an ideal choice for smaller yards or noise-restricted areas. By the way, did we mention it has no exhaust emissions?
The 14-inch cutting deck makes it highly maneuverable and great for tight spaces, around swimming pools or for smaller yards, and you can cover up to 3,200 square feet on a single charge, depending on operating and battery conditions. Need to cover more ground? The STIHL battery can be easily swapped out and recharged in less than 30 minutes with the optional rapid charger. With a high-grade steel blade and five settings for cutting height, you can give your lawn a clean, healthy cut at lengths ranging from approximately one inch to three inches. And the combination of the blade and the fan wheel above it create a strong air current which lifts the grass for a better, cleaner, more precise cut. The easy-to-empty grass catcher holds up to 10.5 gallons of clippings - and the built-in indicator lets you know when it's time to empty. Or use the optional mulching attachment to put natural nutrients back into your lawn. And when you are finished mowing, the handles fold up for easy storage in a 41" x 17.5" x 20" space (with grass catcher).
The RMA 370 walk-behind lawn mower features a brushless, commercial-grade 600-watt electric motor that requires less maintenance than the engine on a gasoline-powered mower.
Dealers are privately owned, and they have total control on how pricing is set. STIHL Inc. sells equipment and parts to only 12 companies in the U.S., those being our branches and distributors. They in turn sell to the Dealers in the territories they service. Once the Dealer purchases the equipment or parts, they own them, and can price them at whatever they feel is appropriate. The branches and distributors provide an -SRP list to the Dealers, which can vary for each territory. However, as the Dealers are privately owned, they can choose to follow the MSRP list or price the items at their discretion. If you see these icons beside a Dealer's listing in the Dealer Locator, it is a link to a site where you can view his list prices.
Our business operates under different guidelines for quite a few reasons, not the least of which are liability and warranty issues. Dealers are required to unpack, prep, and test every unit they sell, and then take the customer through a short training session on the parts and controls of the unit both for their safety and protection as well as for familiarity of the power tool in question. This practice also supports our Dealers, who are required to service as well as sell the product. Parts are also only ordered through Dealers for the aforementioned reasons as well as part familiarity and any exchange issues that may arise. It's a lot easier to deal with a living person at a Dealership who can expedite the resolution of an issue despite the inconvenience of actually having to travel to the Dealer location, a procedure that the internet admittedly eliminates. Still, this "hands on" approach has continued to serve our company efficiently and well, even with the internet now several decades along.
STIHL Inc. does not sell or refurbish products.
STIHL Inc. does not release IPLs (Illustrated Parts Lists) to anyone except authorized Dealers, technicians, and distributors of our products. This approach provides the end-user, in working through an authorized STIHL Dealer, the best opportunity for product performance and maintenance. This also applies to STIHL service manuals. Please see your local authorized STIHL Dealer for assistance in looking up parts. Parts lists have been constantly changing from the point at which your unit was first produced. By consulting your local STIHL Dealer, he will help ensure that you receive the correct part the first time.
It is the Dealer's responsibility to register the product with the customer before the customer leaves the store. The Dealers have their own service website for this purpose as well as for technical and parts look-up issues. This is why we do not offer a website for this purpose for customers. There are several specific questions that must be agreed upon by both the Dealer and the customer, such as proper instruction in the safe operation of the outdoor power equipment, and also to ensure that the proper instruction manual, tools and safety equipment have been offered to or received by the customer at the time of sale. Your sales receipt will always help us identify the date of purchase if the unit is not registered.
Please contact STIHL. Be sure to include a brief description, Dealer name, city, and state.
STIHL does not release new products on a specific time of year. They are introduced when they become available.
STIHL Inc. does not offer specials or discounts. We sell to 12 different distributors throughout the country who in turn set up and supply Dealers within their respective territories. These distributors offer promotions throughout the year. You will need to check with your local authorized STIHL Dealer for any specials or promotions. As a rule, trimmer and blower promotions are in the spring and early summer and chain saw and blower promotions are offered in the late summer and fall.
STIHL does not produce a snow blower. However, if accumulation is not very great, our handheld and backpack blowers do an excellent job of clearing snow.
Our name is pronounced exactly like the metal "steel."
STIHL recommends a 50:1 mix when using STIHL branded two cycle mix oil (2.6 oz. of STIHL branded oil for 1 gallon of premium gasoline) on all of our gasoline-powered equipment.
All STIHL gasoline powered engines can be used with up to a 10% (E10) blend of ethanol in the gasoline/engine oil mix. We also recommend that if a unit will be left unused for more than 30 days that it be stored "dry." This means emptying the fuel tank and then restarting and letting the unit run until all the fuel is consumed and the engine stops. For maximum performance and engine life expectancy, we also recommend using STIHL Ultra 2-cycle engine oil with built-in stabilizer.
Note: STIHL recommends use of fuel with no more than 10% ethanol content. Using fuel with greater than 10% ethanol content may cause damage to your equipment and may void your STIHL warranty. Learn More…
Check out this article from Forbes magazine to learn everything you need to know about the new ethanol regulations and the harm E15 gasoline can cause your gasoline-powered engines.
Please contact your local STIHL Dealer. Calendars are usually available in late November or early December, but supplies are limited. Note that not all STIHL Dealers carry the calendar.
Your local STIHL Dealer is the only way to obtain parts for your STIHL product. STIHL normally continues to manufacture repair parts for 10 years after the last production of a product and continues to sell them for as long as supplies last.

A good test to determine proper oiling of the bar and chain assembly will be to lay a piece of paper or cardboard on the ground or a stump. Start the unit and place the tip of the bar approximately one foot above the paper. Apply full throttle and see if a thin line of oil appears on the paper. If this occurs, the unit is oiling properly. If your chain saw is not operating properly, please see your local STIHL Dealer.
Many people type www.STIHL.com into their browser. This directs them to the worldwide site managed by our founding company in Germany, ANDREAS STIHL AG & Co., KG. It lists all of the countries with STIHL websites in alphabetical order, and that is the reason why the U.S. website is not listed first.
