Why Buy A STIHL Saw Chain

Reduce kickback, improve performance with Swiss-made STIHL OILOMATIC® saw chain.

STIHL state-of-the-art technology has made it possible to reduce the kickback tendency of saw chain and at the same time boost cutting performance. STIHL has the right saw chain for every application, for every performance class and for every make of chain saw.

service and wear limit marks

Stringent controls and special technical processes ensure that every STIHL saw chain is produced to very high quality.

The service and wear limit marks (1) on the cutters are extremely useful guides for sharpening the chain and checking the extent to which it has worn.

precision-finishing of rivet holes in the chain links

Friction and wear is reduced by carefully precision-finishing (reaming) the rivet holes in the chain links (2).

defined tensile stress stretching

At the end of the production sequence, every STIHL saw chain is subjected to a defined tensile stress stretching (3). This reduces the extent to which the chain is stretched when it is used for the first time and ensures that the chain stays adjusted longer.

hard chromium layer

Cutters of highly alloyed special steel make the chain more durable, while an additional hard chromium layer (4) reduces wear and keeps the chain sharp for a long time.

ANSI B175.1 Chain Saw Kickback Standard

STIHL's green and yellow color code system serves to identify STIHL bars and chains with different kickback reduction characteristics. Green (go) marks those products which are designed to reduce the risk of kickback injury and comply with ANSI B175.1 kickback standard. STIHL's low kickback chain features a green triple-hump tie strap that identifies each loop as "low kickback" chain that meets the ANSI standard. Recommended for both the experienced and inexperienced chain saw user. Yellow (caution) marks products with increased risk of kickback injury. They are for use only by persons with extraordinary cutting needs and experience and specialized training in dealing with kickback conditions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

WARNING
The occurrence called “kickback” can cause serious or fatal injury. Always read the instruction manual carefully before using your saw. STIHL uses a green and yellow color-coding system to help you select a powerhead, bar and chain combination that complies with the kickback requirements of ANSI Standard B175.1 (gasoline-powered saws) and §30 of UL 1662/ ANSI Standard B175.1 (electric chain saws). Ask your STIHL dealer about safe operating procedures and the advantages of the STIHL Quickstop® chain brake, STIHL second chain braking system (Q), STIHL reduced kickback bars and STIHL low-kickback saw chains.

STIHL recommends the use of green reduced kickback bars and green low kickback chains on all STIHL chain saws.

STIHL products sold through U.S. STIHL dealers are for distribution in the United States only.
